The impact of Brexit
on working and studying in the UK
With another Conservative prime minister in Downing Street and a second delay granted by the EU to postpone
Brexit until 31 October, the fate of international students and workers in the UK remains in a state of limbo, as
it has since the referendum in 2016. Much hinges on the negotiating work of the newly-arrived Prime Minister
Boris Johnson, and the deal he returns from Brussels with in October. The inability of Theresa May to deliver
a soft Brexit has only increased anxiety surrounding the likelihood of a ‘no-deal’ withdrawal – a scenario with
far-reaching implications on the capacity of internationals to study and work in the UK.
