Growing up I always had an obsession with anything
American. I couldn’t explain to people why, but I was
fascinated by American people, cities, television shows,
food. My fascination with America has never gone away;
it actually led me to pursue a degree in North American
Studies. My degree however provided me with a new
obsession, Canada. In the first year of my degree I began
studying Canadian history, film, literature and culture
and discovered how remarkable the country is. Despite
never having been to Canada before, I was overcome with
dreams of camping in the gorgeous national parks, skiing
in the Rocky Mountains and watching exciting ice hockey
matches. By the end of my first year at University I knew I
wanted to spend my year abroad in Canada and nothing
would change my mind.
