KOBE’S FINEST
GRADUATE SCHOOLS
KOBE UNIVERSITY
KOBE CITY UNIVERSITY OF FOREIGN STUDIES
Kobe is a wonderful city to study in, due to a fantastic range of universities to choose from. Tucked between
Mount Rokko and Osaka Bay, Kobe is a beautifully calm city, leaving the overcrowded streets of Tokyo behind
and thus retaining a communal atmosphere. If you’re looking for a master’s or PHD programme, in any field
imaginable, there are several graduate schools where thousands of students congregate from all over the
world every year.
Kobe University is set in a serene campus in the centre
of the city. The university is extremely welcoming
to foreign students, as is the city of Kobe itself. With
1,100 international students and approximately 500
international researchers, Kobe University is perfect
for non-native students, as well as researchers and
prospective employees. The most notable graduate
schools within the university are economics, business
and law. The university prides itself on offering an
inspirational education and also offers excellent
additional facilities including nine libraries.
Founded in 1946, Kobe City University of Foreign
Studies (KCUFS) is a quiet, intimate alternative to the
larger universities in Kobe and the surrounding area.
KCUFS’ courses are designed to include on-going
language development for its students, as well as
teaching the complex history of cultures and their
interconnectedness. It is KCUFS’ aim to develop well-
rounded, upstanding members of society that are
culturally aware and factually knowledgeable. Courses
operate in Japanese and coursework must be written
in Japanese, so international students will need to
be fluent.
