Founded in 2012, JaLS GROUP has two language schools
situated in Japan. Offering a choice between the beautiful
forests and lakes of Hokkaido or Japan’s old capital
Kyoto, there are a variety of cultural language-learning
experiences on offer to students. The school specialises
in short-term courses of no more than eight students to
develop speaking skills in a community-like environment.
Their emphasis on oral communication provides practical
experience that is invaluable to a beginner, and makes
the school a great option for those looking to learn as
much Japanese as possible within a three month period.
The judges commend JaLS’ commitment to providing an
all-round experience for students which advances and
contextualises their learning. Alongside the wide range of
topics offered to cater to the personal interests of learners,
there is also an extensive programme of activities – from
fruit-picking to skiing – which gives students a fun outlet
to practice their language skills. With an average of five
students in each class, there are many opportunities to
speak the language and create lasting friendships in the
classroom, too. The judges particularly like the focus on
JaLS’ real-world application of Japanese, which continues
to benefit students long after their studies have been
completed.
