Bamford Academy in Rochdale recognises the
uniqueness of every child, with a creative curriculum
weaving artistic and practical disciplines into
everyday activities. Academic standards at Bamford
are very high, with results consistently above the
national average. The Academy has created a place
of enthusiastic learning, with a caring environment
encouraging children to enjoy life and thrive.
Experienced Principal Lisa Matthews has taught in
the UK, Ireland, South Korea and Thailand, and has
previously been a teacher trainer for the British Council
in Southeast Asia. She said: “We share an intense
commitment to do the very best for the children, to
use all our skills to do whatever it takes to make this
school into the very best it can be.”
In addition to comprehensive humanities, arts, maths
and science studies, each student accesses technology,
music and drama, and the school has two expert native
Spanish teachers. Through project-based learning,
students tackle a challenging curriculum in ways that
are engaging and meaningful.
Courses & facilities
Bamford provide myriad opportunities to give
children the richest possible school experience. It
has exceptional sports facilities, and coaches from
Rochdale AFC and Rochdale Hornets deliver PE
sessions. Curricular and extra-curricular courses
include gymnastics, athletics, netball, archery,
swimming and martial arts; and Bamford has links with
local lacrosse, tennis and fencing clubs. As Lisa told us:
“Life at Bamford is hard work but fun with relentless
activities and community events.”
Whatever your child’s interests, the school has a club
for them, from sports to gardening, baking and arts
and crafts. The Academy now offers an exciting Multi
Activity Holiday Club, running during half term and
part of the summer. School meals are cooked on the
premises with a wide variety of choices including
vegetarian and halal, and an onsite allotment provides
much of the produce.
