Performing Arts
The performing arts have been a particular area of
excellence throughout Bamford’s history. The school
boasts many creative and inspiring instructors.
Former head teacher, Cherie Rivero, was an industry
professional who starred in
Emmerdale
and she
brought her expertise and contacts to Bamford. The
Academy’s longstanding artist in residence is actress
Ursula Holden Gill (Alice Dingle in
Emmerdale
), who
established Bamford as a London Academy of Music and
Dramatic Art (LAMDA) assessment centre, where many
children achieve distinctions. A number of alumni have
gone on to achieve tremendous success in performing
arts as actors or dancers or on TV in commercials.
Each year the Academy participates in the Young
Voices choir, in which over 8,000 children perform at
Manchester Arena. In 2019, Bamford children aged five
to 10 participated in the Shakespeare Schools Festival,
performing their version of
The Tempest
to a public
audience.
Why Bamford?
Bamford is an academy with all the right connections,
giving children the avenues for academic success and
expressive achievement and enabling them to flourish
as well-rounded individuals. Lisa explained: “we believe
there is no ceiling to attainment”. Bamford strives to
instil integrity and confidence in each child, towards
the end of realising conscientious global citizens.
Each year, Bamford holds an International Week where
children choose a country and learn about its culture.
The Academy holds the British Council International
Award and has partner schools in India, Mexico and
Colombia. Children are taken all over Europe as part
of the Comenius project, and an annual trip to London
and the Houses of Parliament teaches children about
democracy and the rule of law. Bamford is always on
the lookout for unique experiences for children to be
involved in, showing them they can be anything they
want to be.
