The Ernesettle Approach
Ernesettle Community School is a primary and nursery
school based in Plymouth with over 500 students aged
two to 11. Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2018, Ernesettle is
a top-10 school in Plymouth and one of the best in the
country. The school aims to help children develop lively,
creative and enquiring minds and provide them with
the skills and knowledge needed to prepare them for
a successful, healthy life in the ever-changing world in
which we live. Head teacher Mr Meredith and his staff
believe this is done by providing students with a rich,
broad and balanced curriculum that involves a lot of
student engagement. Ernesettle Community School was
chosen for the Educational Visits Award by Educational
Business Awards 2019 for its out-of-classroom learning
approach that provides students with frequent
educational class trips. They provide excellent care for
all of their students with focus on effective staff-parent/
carer partnerships, making sure that the children’s
education continues outside the classroom.
Supporting the Community
Ernesettle Community School is a National Support
School (NSS) and head teacher Mr Meredith a National
Leader of Education (NLE). As an NSS, the school uses
its success and professionalism to provide additional
leadership capabilities in other schools and as an
NLE, Mr Meredith is deployed to other schools that
require extra support and he helps them to face their
challenging circumstances and raise their standards.
Ernesettle also has the distinction of having four
Specialist Leaders in Education (SLEs) who focus
on developing leadership capacity and developing
classroom expertise across the region.
The school is also committed to integration with
its parents and immediate community. It practices
an ‘open door’ policy that ensures there is always a
member of staff available to answer questions and
solve any problems that may develop. Furthermore,
the school is fully transparent with its progress and
success by having their exam results, Ofsted Reports,
DfE Performance Data and school development plans
available for anyone to read.
