Bamford Academy is a creative-focused primary school in
Rochdale teaching over 300 students. With a maximum of
30 students per class, and only 23 in Reception, this school
is able to offer a wonderful and inclusive environment to
its students and Principal Ms Matthews aims to ‘recognise
and respect the uniqueness of each child’. The school
was also the first academy in Rochdale and for over a
decade has held the British Council International Schools
Award in recognition of their international curriculum
development. The Academy’s annual International
Evening is a community event where students are able to
celebrate their learning about a chosen country or region,
including aspects of the language, traditions, beliefs and
religion.
Bamford excellently demonstrates how to include the
arts within education through their lessons in both drama
and music. Drama is taught by an industry professional,
who prepares them for LAMDA speaking exams, a huge
benefit to any child’s education. Student success in the
arts is furthered as music lessons are carried out by
professional musicians who teach the children skills such
as singing, playing instruments as well as composing
music. Bamford also have professional sports coaches
to teach P.E. lessons and extracurricular sports, showing
their investment in student success in all areas of the
curriculum.
