The English Language Centre at the University of
Victoria (“ELC”) is one of the largest on-campus English
schools in Canada and a leader in international education,
having taught English for 50 years. Welcoming 2,500
students from 35-plus countries each year, ELC offers
a wide variety of English courses throughout the year,
ranging from 12-week intensive English to summer
language & culture programmes. All programmes are
designed to ensure that ELC students enjoy an excellent
academic, social and cultural experience in Victoria.
In addition to English classes, each programme offers a
unique activity calendar. The judges are impressed by the
role of the Cultural Assistant team which organises and
guides ELC activities, while making sure that students
take every opportunity to excel in their study experience.
Whether it involves a trip to Vancouver, kayaking or
going to a hockey game, the team gives students the
unforgettable opportunity to experience the vibrant
culture of Canada. ELC students have the option to live
in a homestay with a Canadian family – allowing the
locals to share their lifestyle – or in the UVic campus
dormitories, living with classmates and Canadian
Cultural Assistants. Overall, studying at the ELC at UVic
is a perfect way for students to immerse themselves in
an authentic English-speaking environment.
