Academic Programme
The Academic Programme’s nine-level system is an
industry leader. YUELI is one of only a few English
Language Institutes that accommodate students with
all levels of proficiency, covering the entire range of
learners. The programme is also remarkably flexible
in that it allows students to transfer to YUELI’s other
programmes once a certain level is completed, and is
unique in that it allows upper level students (AP6-9) to
sit in on undergraduate lectures at York University and
begin gaining classroom experience.

programmes are designed to immerse international
students in Canadian culture and in practical application
of language skills outside of the classroom.
Teacher Training Programmes
YUELI’s Teacher Training programmes have been crafted
with specialist expertise and experience to fulfill the
individual needs of its global partners. The Teacher
Training programmes can be taught on campus at York
University or on location at the partner’s premises in a
variety of formats: in-person, online or blended. YUELI
closely collaborates with York’s Faculty of Education and
the Toronto District School Board to provide customised
training so that participating educators always receive
industry mentoring of the highest standard. Garcia-
Sitton explains that “each YUELI customised programme
combines the needs of the profession itself with the
specific language skills required to better meet those
needs”. During the Teacher Training programmes,
students are immersed in Canadian society and
education system to attain a strong understanding of
their field.
Undergraduate Pathway
Programmes
Destination York is one of the fastest pathways in the
industry, taking just eight weeks from start to finish.
In this accelerated programme, students will build the
language skills required to succeed in York University’s
undergraduate degrees. Along with regular English
language training activities, the Destination York
programme focuses on analysing academic readings,
practicing research paper writing, designing and
delivering interactive presentations, collaborating on
team projects, and more.
The YUBridge programme enables students to take
undergraduate courses alongside their EAP studies as full
undergraduate students of York University, giving them
a head start in building relationships with professors
and peers in their faculties. Academic tutorials for
YUBridge students are taught separately in small classes
by lecturers chosen specifically for their experience in
working with international students, to best cater to the
learners’ needs. By the end of the programme, students
will have reached an IELTS 6.5 level, earned up to nine
credits, and be permitted to move forward into full-time
undergraduate study.
